The PLA Navy's Type 075 Amphibious Assault Ship Makes Its First Foreign Stop in Indonesia
The Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) Navy's Type 075 amphibious assault ship, the Hainan, has made its first foreign stop with a technical stop in Indonesia. This marks a significant milestone for the PLA Navy, showcasing its growing capabilities and openness to international cooperation.
The Hainan, along with the guided missile frigates Hengyang and Liuzhou, arrived at the port of Tanjung Priok for a four-day replenishment visit. This is the first time a Type 075 amphibious assault ship has stopped at a foreign country, highlighting the PLA Navy's confidence and transparency.
Military expert Zhang Junshe emphasizes that the overseas display of this strategic weapon demonstrates the PLA Navy's openness and commitment to international exchange. As the PLA Navy expands its reach, more naval assets will participate in foreign visits, fostering friendly exchanges and showcasing the PLA's strength and professionalism.
During the technical stop, the ship's crew will engage in cultural, sports, and social exchanges with their Indonesian counterparts. This visit further strengthens the ties and cooperative relations between the two countries and their militaries.
The Hainan's voyage also enhances the warships' capabilities for far-seas operations. In March 2023, the Hainan completed a far-seas exercise, sailing over 9,000 nautical miles in the South China Sea and the Western Pacific.
The Hainan, launched in 2019 and commissioned in 2021, is the PLA Navy's first Type 075 amphibious assault ship. This visit to Indonesia, following its first visit to Hong Kong in November 2021, signifies the growing presence and capabilities of the PLA Navy on the global stage.
