Elon Musk intends to distribute $1 million each day leading up to the upcoming U.S. election, with the funds going to individuals who advocate for the First and Second Amendments in the U.S. Constitution. These amendments safeguard citizens’ rights to free speech and the legal possession of firearms.
During an event for his America PAC in Pennsylvania, Musk awarded the first cheque to an attendee who was surprised by the unexpected windfall. This event served to generate support for presidential candidate Donald Trump. Those present had to sign a petition that allows America PAC to collect their contact information for future voter mobilization efforts.
The winner of the first drawing was identified as John Dreher, who was not anticipating receiving a payout. Musk established America PAC to act as a political action committee in favor of Trump, working specifically to mobilize and register voters in critical battleground areas.
However, concerns have arisen from election law specialists, who argue Musk’s actions may contravene federal statutes. These laws prevent monetary incentives aimed at encouraging voter registration or influencing how individuals vote. According to legal experts, the main issue is that only registered voters are eligible to receive the money, which potentially renders the initiative illegal.
Professor Rick Hasen from UCLA's Law School stated that while Musk could legally give money in exchange for petition signatures, the restriction on who can participate creates problems. Musk is recognized as one of the richest individuals globally and has reportedly committed at least $75 million to America PAC, establishing it as a significant element of Trump’s campaign efforts.

Anything that encourages voter registration and participation is a good thing. More people need to have their voices heard.

This is not about the First or Second Amendments. This is about buying votes for a specific candidate. Let's call it what it is.

This is blatant voter manipulation! Shame on Musk for trying to buy votes for Trump with his money.

Musk is a successful entrepreneur. Maybe he knows something about influencing people that the experts don't.

This is just the beginning. Hopefully, other influential individuals will follow Musk's lead.
