Six young cyclists, whose ages range from 17 to 20, are set to be charged in court for disregarding several road safety regulations in Singapore. The police reported that on May 10, these individuals were seen riding dangerously along Scotts Road and Orchard Road, allegedly putting both their own safety and the safety of other road users at risk.
The cyclists did not adhere to proper riding protocols, failing to stay near the far left-hand edge of the road. Eyewitnesses noted that they were weaving between lanes and attempting stunts, which is both reckless and unlawful. A video shared on the social media platform Facebook showcased their risky behavior, including wheelies and close encounters with vehicles.
Legal charges will be presented against all six individuals under the Road Traffic Rules for their failure to ride safely. Additionally, five of the cyclists will face charges for disorderly riding, and two will be charged for not wearing appropriate bicycle helmets. Specific charges will apply to one cyclist for using a bike lacking a working brake and another for operating a mobile phone while cycling.
If found guilty, the cyclists face fines up to S$1,000 (approximately US$770) or imprisonment for up to three months, with higher penalties for repeat offenses. For subsequent violations, the fines can escalate to S$2,000, alongside potential six-month jail terms.

This will just push them further away from the law and make them into criminals!

We need more tolerance for young people and their activities!

The news is making a mountain out of a molehill! This isn't a major crime!

They should have a designated space to ride and do stunts safely!

Instead of jail, let them do some cycling safety courses!

The law needs to be updated! The rules are outdated and don't consider young people's needs.

The police are overreacting! They should focus on real criminals, not teenagers on bikes.
