Patrick Ewing, the esteemed Hall of Famer, is making his return to the New York Knicks in a newly established position as a basketball ambassador. The franchise announced on Friday that Ewing will support various aspects of both basketball and business operations in this role.
Drafted by the Knicks as the first overall pick in the 1985 NBA Draft, Ewing enjoyed a remarkable 15-season career with the team. He holds numerous franchise records, including career points, rebounds, blocks, steals, and games played, and led the Knicks to playoff appearances throughout his last 13 seasons. In 2003, the Knicks honored him by retiring his iconic No. 33 jersey. Following his playing days, Ewing gained experience as an assistant coach in the NBA and served as the head coach at Georgetown University, where he led the team to the 1984 NCAA championship.
Ewing expressed his enthusiasm about his return to the Knicks, stating, “As I said the day my No. 33 jersey lifted into the rafters at MSG, I will always be a Knick and I will always be a New Yorker. I can’t wait to get started in this new position and to officially be back with the organization that I love so much.” Additionally, Ewing's return comes on the heels of an announcement from USA Basketball, where he will also serve as an assistant coach under Stephen Silas during the upcoming two-game windows of FIBA AmeriCup qualifying in November and February.

The Knicks keep bringing back old legends instead of focusing on current talent. It's frustrating!
