Three pre-natal clinics in the city have been equipped with sets of five models representing the development stages of fetuses during the first three months of pregnancy. These models will be shown to women considering abortion as part of their mandatory pre-abortion consultation.

The initiative, supported by local health authorities, aims to dissuade women from terminating their pregnancies by providing a visual representation of fetal development. This approach aligns with the Russian Orthodox Church's stance against abortion, which they consider a "national disaster."

While abortion remains legal and covered by national health insurance in Russia, the government is actively encouraging families to have more children. President Putin has implemented various measures to incentivize larger families, and the declining abortion rate suggests these efforts might be showing some success.

However, the demographic situation in Russia remains concerning. The death rate continues to exceed the birth rate, leading to a steady population decline. A recent study warns that this trend could have significant negative consequences for the economy.

The Kremlin acknowledges the urgency of the situation, with spokesman Dmitry Peskov stating that improving the demographic situation and achieving sustainable birth rate growth is a matter of life and death for Russia. The use of embryo models in Ivanovo represents one of the many strategies being employed to address this critical issue.
