Philadelphia Phillies Sweep Blue Jays with 4-2 Victory
The Philadelphia Phillies continued their winning ways on Wednesday, defeating the Toronto Blue Jays 4-2 at Rogers Centre to complete a two-game sweep. The victory marked the Phillies' fourth consecutive win and moved them to a record of 83-56 on the season.
Kyle Schwarber got the Phillies off to a strong start, launching a solo home run in the top of the first inning. It was Schwarber's second home run in as many days, following his three-homer performance in Tuesday's 10-9 victory. J.T. Realmuto added an insurance run in the ninth inning with his 12th home run of the year.
Cristopher Sanchez was dominant on the mound for the Phillies, allowing just two runs on six hits over seven innings of work. He struck out seven batters and earned his 10th win of the season. The Blue Jays managed to take an early lead in the bottom of the first inning on back-to-back RBI doubles by Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Alejandro Kirk. However, the Phillies responded quickly and regained the lead in the second inning on a two-run homer by Kody Clemens.
The Blue Jays bullpen was unable to hold the lead, allowing Realmuto's solo shot in the ninth inning to extend the Phillies' lead to 4-2. The Blue Jays were unable to mount a comeback in the bottom of the ninth, falling to a record of 67-74.
The Phillies will look to continue their winning streak when they return home to face the Miami Marlins on Friday. The Blue Jays will have a day off before heading to Atlanta to take on the Braves in a weekend series.
