Rhanni Davis, a 30-year-old from Chicago, is facing four counts of first-degree murder following a brutal mass shooting that resulted in the deaths of four individuals on a CTA train during Labor Day. The victims include 64-year-old Margaret Miller, 28-year-old Simeon Bihesi, 60-year-old Adrian Collins, and a fourth man whose identity remains unknown.
According to the Forest Park Police Department, they received reports early Monday morning around 5:30 AM that three individuals had been shot while they were asleep on the Blue Line train. Upon arriving at the Forest Park CTA station, officers discovered four victims with gunshot injuries; three were found deceased in one carriage, while Collins was found injured in another carriage before later succumbing to his injuries at a hospital.
Police described the killings as seemingly random, as there was no evident altercation prior to the shootings. Surveillance footage reportedly shows Davis standing in the same carriage as the victims, all of whom appeared to be asleep, before he opened fire on them one by one. Notably, a woman sleeping nearby was unharmed, possibly spared because Davis ran out of ammunition during the assault.
After the attack, Davis was apprehended within 90 minutes. Officers had identified him through surveillance footage on a different train. Investigators located a 9mm Glock 43, which Davis owned, as the weapon used in the shooting. Although the incident has been characterized as isolated, with no ongoing threat to the local community, the motive behind the attack remains unknown, and the status of the victims’ housing is yet to be clarified by authorities. Davis is scheduled for a court appearance on Wednesday afternoon.
