Singapore to Phase Out Diesel Cars and Taxis by 2025
In a move to support its clean energy vision, Singapore will cease registering new diesel cars and taxis from 2025 onwards. This announcement was made by the Land Transport Authority (LTA) on Wednesday.
While diesel car owners will still be able to renew their certificates of entitlement, they will face higher road taxes as a disincentive. This measure aims to encourage the transition towards cleaner vehicles.
The restrictions will not apply to the import and registration of cars under the Classic Vehicle Scheme and Vintage Vehicle Scheme. These schemes preserve heritage vehicles and are not intended for daily use.
Singapore's commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050 is a significant step in tackling climate change. The phasing out of diesel vehicles is a key component of this strategy, as it will reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve air quality.

What about the people who can't afford expensive electric vehicles? This policy will only benefit the wealthy.

This move will help Singapore lead by example in the fight against climate change and inspire other countries to follow suit.

This decision will hurt the economy by pushing people out of the taxi industry and making transportation more expensive for everyone.

How are people who rely on diesel taxis supposed to get around after 2025? This is going to cause a lot of hardship for many people.
