Lauren Boebert's Son Hires Attorney for Colorado Theft Case
Tyler Boebert, the 18-year-old son of Republican Congresswoman Lauren Boebert, has finally hired an attorney to represent him in his Colorado criminal theft case. This comes after months of appearing in court without legal representation.
Dressed in a suit and tie, Tyler Boebert appeared in the Garfield County Courthouse on Thursday with his newly hired attorney, William Trent Palmer. This follows two previous court appearances where Boebert had informed the judge of his difficulty in affording legal counsel.
During an April court appearance, Boebert stated, "We are working to hire an attorney, but it's just been kind of hard with the prices, but we are working on it." At a subsequent appearance in May, he informed the judge that he had only recently applied for a public defender, drawing disappointment from the judge.
However, Boebert ultimately opted for private legal representation. Palmer, who runs his own practice in Carbondale, Colorado, requested a continuance of the case until July 25th. The judge granted the request, allowing Boebert and Palmer time to discuss the case and engage in further discussions with the District Attorney.
Palmer's firm, WTP | LAW, specializes in defending clients facing serious allegations, including drug and weapons charges, burglary and theft, and domestic violence offenses.
Boebert was arrested in February in connection with a series of car break-ins and property thefts in Rifle, Colorado. He faces numerous charges, including several felonies for criminal possession of ID documents.
According to the arrest affidavit, Boebert and three others allegedly broke into four cars in Rifle and stole wallets, using them to make purchases at McDonald's, Starbucks, and gas stations.
In a statement to Business Insider, Lauren Boebert said that her son should be "held accountable for poor decisions just like any other citizen." The congresswoman has not attended her son's court appearances but was present at former President Donald Trump's recent criminal hush-money trial in New York City.

Focusing on personal connections and wealth can distract from the actual case. We should be discussing the facts and evidence, not external factors.

While the alleged crimes should be investigated thoroughly, we must also remember that Tyler Boebert is entitled to the same legal rights as anyone else.
