In the early hours of Wednesday morning, a chilling incident unfolded in a high-rise apartment in Tokyo's Shinjuku Ward. A 51-year-old man, Manabu Wakui, was arrested on suspicion of fatally stabbing a woman in her 20s.
At approximately 3:05 a.m., officers received a distress call reporting a one-sided attack on a woman in the apartment building located about 1.3 kilometers northwest of Shinjuku Station. Upon arrival, officers from the Shinjuku Police Station discovered the victim lying on the ground, suffering from multiple stab wounds.
Wakui, whose employment status remains unclear and who resides in Kawasaki, was found near the victim and subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted murder. Tragically, the victim was later pronounced dead at the hospital, prompting police to reclassify the case as murder.
During questioning, Wakui confessed to the attack, stating his motive as a desire to "cover her in wounds." The victim, believed to be a resident of the building, sustained multiple stab wounds to her neck and stomach inflicted by a knife approximately 10 centimeters in length.
Authorities are currently working to confirm the victim's identity and investigate her relationship with Wakui. The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing.
