Following a tragic incident where a highway collapse in Meizhou claimed lives and caused injuries, Guangdong province has swiftly responded by setting up a specialized task force led by Governor Wang Weizhong to determine the cause of the collapse and provide assistance to the injured individuals. Additionally, measures have been put in place to ensure the safety of residents and travelers, especially during the peak return travel period of the May Day holiday, to prevent further accidents or disasters.

The heavy rainfall that recently hit the southern province has raised concerns about potential secondary disasters stemming from saturated soil, prompting the Department of Natural Resources to issue warnings about a heightened risk of landslides and flooding. Consequently, a comprehensive inspection focusing on areas prone to geological risks, such as mountains, slopes, and cliffs, has been initiated province-wide. Furthermore, the Department of Transport has undertaken a similar inspection of transportation infrastructure like highways, railways, and waterways, reflecting the proactive approach taken to address safety concerns.
