Beijing's Mentougou District Showcases Green Development and High-Tech Achievements to International Diplomats
On Tuesday, Beijing's western Mentougou district welcomed 32 diplomats from 23 countries across five continents. The visit aimed to showcase the area's remarkable achievements in high-tech development and green conservation.
Mentougou, a former coal town, has undergone a significant transformation into an ecological conservation area. Located at the western gateway to the capital, it boasts lush greenery and pristine waters. The diplomats were treated to a tour of the beautiful countryside and attractions, including the millennium-old Tanzhe Temple, Snow Peak's first store in Beijing, and the Xitan Hotel.
The visit also included a stop at the Zhongguancun Mentougou Park, where the diplomats and business representatives explored the Science and Technology Innovation Center exhibition hall, the pharmaceutical achievement transformation center, and the AI showcase area. The Namibian Ambassador to China, Elia George Kaiyamo, expressed his deep impression of the innovative achievements witnessed in Mentougou, believing they hold promise for playing a significant role in the new era.
This visit marked Ambassador Kaiyamo's first to Mentougou, despite living in Beijing for years. The event served as a testament to Mentougou's successful transformation and its commitment to sustainable development and technological advancement.

I'm glad to see the local attractions in Mentougou getting the recognition they deserve. It's a beautiful part of Beijing that more people should know about.

What about the local residents? Are they benefiting from this supposed 'green conservation' or are they being pushed out for the sake of development?

This is just a distraction from the real problems facing Beijing and China as a whole. It's all smoke and mirrors.

I don't see how this visit will actually benefit anyone other than the officials trying to score political points.

I hope other cities in China and around the world follow Mentougou's example in sustainable development. We need more areas like this.
