Ukrainian Navy Strikes Russian Landing Ship
On Tuesday morning, March 26th, the Ukrainian Navy struck the Konstantin Olshansky landing ship, which Russia had captured from Ukraine in 2014. The ship was hit with a missile, rendering it "not combat-capable," according to Ukrainian navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk.
Russia has not yet commented on the incident.
The Konstantin Olshansky was seized by Russia along with most of Ukraine's navy when Russian troops occupied the Crimean peninsula in 2014.
"It had gone through a renovation and was being prepared for use against Ukraine, so unfortunately the decision was taken to strike this (ship)," Pletenchuk said.
The Ukrainian military used a Neptune anti-ship missile for the attack.
Despite Russia's occupation of some of its southern regions, Ukraine still controls several hundred kilometers of Black Sea coastline. While it lacks large warships, Ukraine has successfully conducted a series of strikes on Russia's Black Sea fleet in recent months using missiles and seaborne drones.
On Sunday, Ukraine's military claimed to have struck two other Russian landing ships in Crimea.
