Indian Families Desperate to Rescue Loved Ones Lured to Fight in Ukraine

Across India, families are grappling with the harrowing reality of their loved ones being lured to Russia with false promises of jobs, only to be forced to fight in the war against Ukraine. Frustrated by the perceived lack of government support, some families are taking the desperate step of traveling to Russian-occupied areas of Ukraine to retrieve their loved ones.

Raja Begum, a 65-year-old woman from Poshwan village in Indian-administered Kashmir, exemplifies this desperate struggle. Her son, Azad Yousuf Kumar, was enticed by the promise of a housekeeping job in Dubai. He paid a hefty fee to a consultant, Faisal Khan, who advertised such opportunities on his YouTube channel, Baba Vlogs.

However, upon arrival in the UAE, Kumar was informed that no jobs were available. Khan then convinced him to travel to Russia for a kitchen job. Instead, Kumar found himself in a military training center in Moscow, undergoing weapons training alongside other men from India and Nepal. He was subsequently deployed to the front lines in Ukraine, forced to fight a war he never signed up for.

Begum's son sustained injuries during training and was denied proper rest. He was sent to the front lines despite the ongoing deadly battle. His older brother, Sajad Ahmad Kumar, revealed that at least a dozen other Indian men were trapped in a similar manner, allegedly by individuals affiliated with the Baba Vlogs account.

Attempts to contact Khan and the Baba Vlogs team for comment were unsuccessful. The channel, which had over 350,000 subscribers until February, has since been deleted.

These families, left with no other options, are undertaking a perilous journey to war-torn Ukraine to bring their loved ones back home. Their plight highlights the urgent need for government intervention and support to rescue these men and ensure their safe return.

It's sad, but these families need to learn from this and be more careful in the future.

This just goes to show that you can't trust everyone you see on the internet, especially when it comes to job offers.

These men should have been more cautious and questioned the legitimacy of these job opportunities.
