## Pro-Palestinian Protest Encampment Removed at Columbia University, Over 100 Arrested
On Thursday, New York police dismantled a pro-Palestinian protest encampment at Columbia University, leading to the arrest of more than 100 demonstrators, including Isra Hirsi, daughter of prominent Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar.
The protest, which began on Wednesday, was organized by students opposing Israeli military action in Gaza and demanding the university divest from companies allegedly profiting from "Israeli apartheid."
Following warnings from the university that protesters would face suspension if the encampment remained, school officials called in police to clear the demonstrators.
"The individuals who established the encampment violated a long list of rules and policies," said Columbia University President Nemat Shafik in a statement.
Police Commissioner Edward Caban described the arrests as peaceful, with protesters cooperating with authorities.
The protest coalition, however, demanded full amnesty for all students disciplined for their involvement in the encampment or the movement for Palestinian liberation.
Congresswoman Omar, who had questioned President Shafik about the university's targeting of pro-Palestinian protesters at a congressional hearing on Wednesday, has not yet commented on the arrests.

Protesting is one thing, but disrupting the normal operations of a university is completely unacceptable.

It's important to speak out against injustice, even if it means facing consequences.

These protesters need to learn that there are consequences for their actions.
