The National Health Commission of China has issued a comprehensive circular to strengthen the management of midwife services and ensure that the public has access to essential healthcare services during pregnancy, childbirth, and the postpartum period.

Role of Publicly-Funded Healthcare Institutions

Counties with a population exceeding 300,000 must have at least two publicly-funded healthcare institutions capable of providing midwife services.

Counties with a population below 300,000 must have at least one such institution.

This initiative aims to ensure that individuals have access to qualified and experienced midwives, regardless of their location or socioeconomic status.

Improved Quality and Accessibility

Provide comprehensive midwife services, including prenatal care, labor and delivery assistance, and postpartum care.

Ensure that midwives are adequately trained and certified.

Establish standardized protocols for midwife care to ensure consistent and high-quality services.

Enhanced Collaboration and Coordination

Sharing resources and expertise to improve the quality of care.

Conducting training programs to enhance the skills of midwives.
