China's President Xi Jinping met with a top Russian Senator, Valentina Matvienko, on Monday to hold talks in Beijing. The high-profile talks focused on enhancing ties between the two nations and their joint multinational projects.
China is ready to continue to work with Russia to create a new era of comprehensive strategic cooperation partnership that is mutually supportive, deeply integrated, pioneering and innovative, and mutually beneficial to rejuvenate the two countries and promote a prosperous, stable, fair and just world, Xi said during a meeting with various senior officials from the two countries.
On the other hand, Xi said that Moscow and Beijing should lead the right direction of global governance reform, stressing that the development of the bilateral ties has become a strategic choice made by both countries based on their own national and people's fundamental interests. The importance of establishing relationships within such multinational groups as the SCO and BRICS, Xi said.
The speaker of Russia's upper chamber of parliament, Matvienko, relayed a spoken message from Russian President Vladimir Putin to Xi. In recent times, Russia-China relations have reached their highest-ever point, and they will continue to improve even further. The leaders of the two states have a key role in preparing for the elections. In addition, she said, such cooperation is in the best interests of our countries.
After the talks, Matvienko said Moscow can always count on a firm and reliable friendly shoulder in China, describing the country as a very responsible serious state. The main thing that I learned from all the meetings and discussions is that China will consistently and persistently continue cooperation with Russia, safeguarding the friendship that exists between our countries and peoples, she said.
Matvienko's delegation, led by Matvienko, will remain in China until Wednesday. The main purpose of her visit is to cement ties between the Chinese and Russian parliaments, with the senator planning to take part in the 8th inter-parliamentary commission between the two countries. The meeting was the first in-person meeting since the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak in early 2020.
