Promotion of Tokyo-Hakone Intercollegiate Ekiden in Beijing

A 35-year-old Chinese blogger, Hu Zesheng, who is a passionate follower of the race, conceived the idea for the promotional event. His enthusiasm for the Hakone Ekiden was ignited about eight years ago, leading him to visit Japan to witness the preliminary round for the next year's race in October. Hu expressed a desire to create an event that would enable Japanese and Chinese people to come together through the ekiden race.

During the event, Hu showcased the history of the Hakone Ekiden through video clips, aiming to familiarize the participants with the relay race concept. The event received positive feedback, with attendees expressing admiration for the dedication of young individuals to the ekiden.

In Beijing, a promotional event for the Tokyo-Hakone Intercollegiate Ekiden took place at the Japanese Embassy, organized by the Embassy and other institutions. The event was initiated by Hu Zesheng, a 35-year-old Chinese blogger and an avid fan of the Hakone Ekiden. Hu was inspired to organize the event after watching a video of the race around eight years ago and subsequently traveling to Japan to witness the preliminary round for the next year's race.

Hu's goal is to establish an event that allows Japanese and Chinese people to engage and connect through an ekiden race. At the event, Hu utilized video clips to introduce the history of the Hakone Ekiden, aiming to raise awareness of relay races among the Chinese participants. The event received positive responses, with attendees like Kui Jun, a 36-year-old online media editor, expressing admiration for the commitment of young individuals to the ekiden.

I just don't understand why Hu Zesheng is so fixated on this race. It's not that special.

This seems like just another attempt for China to exert influence over Japan through cultural events.

Chinese and Japanese people have been at odds for years. I doubt a race event is going to change that.

I'm glad to see efforts being made to promote the history and significance of the Hakone Ekiden outside of Japan.
