Chinese Aircraft Carrier Shandong Returns to South China Sea After Far Sea Exercise

The Shandong carrier strike group of the Chinese PLA recently completed its third far sea exercise of the year in the West Pacific before returning to the South China Sea. The exercise showcased the carrier's enhanced capabilities, particularly in repelling potential external interference and provocations. The group's activities included around 420 fighter jet sorties and 150 helicopter sorties, totaling about 570 aircraft sorties during the drills.

The Shandong carrier strike group, accompanied by several naval forces, conducted its operations in the international waters of the Philippine Sea. The carrier's notable performance during the exercise indicated a substantial increase in its training level and crew and pilot capabilities. The exercise coincided with the US Navy's carrier strike groups holding a Multi-Large Deck Exercise with the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force's helicopter destroyer in the same sea region.

The return of the Shandong carrier strike group to the South China Sea signifies its readiness and enhanced capabilities following its successful far sea exercise in the West Pacific.
