Leicester City Appoint Ruud van Nistelrooy as New Manager
Leicester City have announced the appointment of Ruud van Nistelrooy as their new manager, replacing the recently sacked Steve Cooper. The Dutchman has signed a contract with the Foxes until June 2027.
Van Nistelrooy's arrival comes after a turbulent period for Leicester, who currently find themselves hovering just above the relegation zone. The club acted swiftly to replace Cooper, who departed after just 157 days in charge.
Van Nistelrooy brings a wealth of experience to the King Power Stadium, having previously served as assistant manager at Manchester United and interim manager following Erik ten Hag's dismissal. He also boasts a successful playing career, having scored over 300 goals for clubs like PSV Eindhoven, Real Madrid, and Manchester United.
"I'm proud, I'm excited," Van Nistelrooy said in a statement. "Everybody that I speak to about Leicester City Football Club is enthusiastic. They have great stories about the quality of the people working at the club, the supporters and, of course, the recent history of the club is impressive."
Leicester chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha expressed his confidence in the new manager, stating, "Ruud's experience, knowledge and winning mentality will undoubtedly bring great value to us and we look forward to supporting him in achieving success for our fans and our club."
Van Nistelrooy's first match in charge will be against West Ham United on Tuesday, following Leicester's visit to Brentford on Saturday. Caretaker manager Ben Dawson will lead the team for the Brentford fixture.
