The Brisbane Heat have secured their place in the WBBL final for the fourth time, defeating the Sydney Thunder by nine wickets. Heat captain Jess Jonassen's decision to send the Thunder in at Allan Border Field proved successful, as her bowlers restricted the visitors to a mere 7-69.
A record-breaking WBBL stand of 64 for the eighth wicket by Hannah Darlington (40 not out) and Taneale Peschel (24 not out) helped the Thunder reach a total of 7-133 from their 20 overs. However, the Heat chased down the target with ease, reaching the required runs in just 15.2 overs.
India's Jemimah Rodrigues, despite being dropped three times, contributed 43 runs off 30 deliveries before retiring hurt due to a left wrist injury sustained while fielding. She is expected to miss the final. Georgia Redmayne's unbeaten 53 and Charli Knott's 19 not out showcased the Heat's batting depth.
Leg spinner Grace Parsons played a crucial role in the Heat's victory, claiming 3-10 in three overs. She was awarded the player-of-the-match for the second time in the tournament, having previously taken 3-22 against the Melbourne Renegades. Parsons dismissed Thunder captain Phoebe Litchfield for 15, with Jonassen taking a spectacular catch at mid-off.
The Heat lost Grace Harris early in the run chase, but Redmayne and Rodrigues ensured a comfortable victory. The Heat will now face the Melbourne Renegades in the WBBL final at the MCG on Sunday.
