In the early hours of Thursday, a man suspected of being intoxicated crashed his vehicle into barricades set up for a police checkpoint on the Western Express Highway in Andheri East. The involved individual, identified as 32-year-old Devpriya Nishank, was reportedly driving a luxury car with a female passenger who had also been drinking.

Upon approaching the police checkpoint, Nishank attempted to flee by driving into the barricades and subsequently collided with three other cars. Officers and nearby individuals pursued him, ultimately bringing his vehicle to a stop. Attempts to open the car door were unsuccessful, leading bystanders to shatter the glass to gain access, during which time a crowd grew and Nishank faced physical aggression from onlookers. He was later taken into custody for medical evaluation, with authorities noting he is a businessman residing in Worli.
