In December, a significant defamation judgment of $148 million was awarded to two Georgia election workers, Ruby Freeman and her daughter Shaye Moss, against Rudy Giuliani. On the one-month anniversary of Giuliani's court-ordered deadline to turn over assets, they are still left with little in terms of compensation.
A federal judge in Manhattan mandated that Giuliani must surrender millions of dollars in cash, real estate, sports memorabilia, and other assets by October 28 to the election workers he defamed after the contentious 2020 election. As Thanksgiving approached, Freeman and Moss’s legal representatives indicated that aside from a few watches, their clients have not received anything substantial. While Giuliani did hand over a Mercedes and vacated his New York apartment, he failed to provide the necessary paperwork required to cash these assets. Key items, such as a signed Joe DiMaggio jersey, are reportedly unaccounted for and lost among Giuliani's belongings stored in a facility in Ronkonkoma, New York.
Giuliani, who once served as Donald Trump’s attorney, may face legal repercussions for further defamation claims he made against Freeman and Moss during his livestream broadcasts. During court proceedings, he expressed frustration over his financial situation, claiming he had no cash or credit available because everything was allegedly tied up by Freeman and Moss.
a co-op apartment on Manhattan's Upper East Side, which he owns without a mortgage. He was ordered to transfer the property's proprietary lease and co-op shares to Freeman and Moss by the October deadline. However, his attorneys claimed he has misplaced these essential documents, which complicates the process of selling the apartment.
Freeman and Moss's lawyers reported having difficulty locating any of the artwork or sports memorabilia housed there, indicating that many items are mixed in with other unspecified belongings in a warehouse. In court, attorney Aaron Nathan expressed their dwindling patience, having conducted searches with no success. Similarly, Giuliani's claim of maintaining his $3.5 million Palm Beach residence as exempt from civil seizure will be addressed in an upcoming trial, along with ownership disputes over Yankees World Series rings valued at $50,000 each.
Giuliani, having filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy following the judgment, faced dismissal of his case due to inadequate disclosure of his assets. Alongside his undisclosed debts, he pointed towards a substantial amount owed to him by the Trump's 2020 campaign. On a recent occasion, Giuliani also relinquished a vintage Mercedes, emphasizing a lack of a title which has further complicated asset recovery efforts. The judge presiding over the case has urged Giuliani to promptly rectify this paperwork issue so that justice can be served to Freeman and Moss.
