The Food and Drug Administration has issued a recall for organic eggs sold at Costco after concerns arose about Salmonella. The recall affects 10,800 units of 24-count Kirkland brand organic eggs that were sold in five states, including Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee.
This recall was initiated after Handsome Brook Farms, a New York-based company, found that eggs not intended for retail sale had been improperly packaged and distributed to 25 Costco stores beginning November 22. The specific eggs recalled have a Julian code of 327 and a "Use By" date of January 5, 2025.
As of now, the FDA reports no illnesses related to this issue. However, Salmonella is a serious infection that can cause symptoms such as diarrhea, stomach cramps, and fever, and may necessitate hospitalization in some cases, especially in vulnerable populations like young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems.
