ISKCON Expresses Solidarity with Priest Arrested in Bangladesh
The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) has expressed solidarity with priest Chinmoy Krishna Das, who was arrested on charges of sedition in Bangladesh. Das was allegedly arrested for raising a flag on a stand displaying the country's national flag.
In a statement, ISKCON, Inc. said, "Our prayers to Lord Krishna for the protection of all these devotees." The organization also condemned the arrest, calling it "unjust" and demanding Das's immediate release.
The arrest has sparked widespread outrage, with many demanding Das's release and expressing concerns about the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. Former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also condemned the arrest and called for the protection of religious freedom for all communities.
A group of retired judges, bureaucrats, and a sitting MP in India sent a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging him to intervene and address the rising violence and discrimination against Hindus in Bangladesh.
The arrest has further strained relations between the Bangladesh government and ISKCON, fuelling protests and unrest.
