On Tuesday, President Xi Jinping reiterated China's dedication to collaborating with the global community to bring an end to the ongoing conflict and violence in the Middle East, specifically advocating for a resurgence of the two-state solution concerning Palestine. In his message to a UN event commemorating the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People, he emphasized the urgent need for a comprehensive, just, and lasting resolution to the Palestinian issue.
Xi's remarks come at a time of intense conflict, where he noted over 44,000 Palestinians, mainly women and children, have lost their lives in the recent violence. He has consistently participated in this observance for the past 12 years, which serves to draw attention to the unresolved status of Palestine within the international community.
Stressing the significance of the Palestinian question as central to the broader Middle East dilemma, Xi urged for the practical implementation of UN Security Council resolutions to swiftly end hostilities and stabilize the region. He affirmed the necessity of achieving a two-state relationship that supports the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital based on the 1967 borders, thereby ensuring the rights of the Palestinian people to their own identity and sovereignty.
Xi reiterated China's firm support for the legitimate rights of the Palestinian populace, advocating for unity amongst Palestinian factions and encouraging internal reconciliation through the Beijing Declaration. Moreover, he endorsed Palestine's bid for full UN membership and highlighted the importance of convening an inclusive, authoritative international peace conference to foster dialogue and resolution.
