Golden Monkeys Embark on International Collaboration
The China Wildlife Conservation Association announced the exciting news of three golden monkeys embarking on a 10-year international exchange and cooperation project with France. This initiative aims to strengthen international collaboration in the protection of these fascinating primates, also known as snub-nosed monkeys.
The association signed a cooperation agreement with France's Beauval Zoo, outlining the exchange of conservation techniques and the enhancement of management practices for golden monkeys. As part of the agreement, China will provide France with one male and two female golden monkeys. Any offspring born during their stay in France will return to China at the age of 5. Following the 10-year collaboration, all the monkeys will be transported back to their homeland.
This arrangement mirrors the successful international exchange and cooperation programs for giant pandas. The Sichuan People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries highlighted the significance of both giant pandas and golden monkeys as ecological symbols of China, embodying the cultural values of peace, friendship, and harmony.
The scientific discovery of the golden monkey in Baoxing county, Sichuan province, by French naturalist Armand David in 1869 not only deepened our understanding of biodiversity but also forged a bond of friendship between the people of China and France. This year marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations, further solidifying their collaborative efforts in wildlife conservation.
The recent Chinese Giant Panda and Golden Monkey Art Exhibition, held in Paris following its debut in Beijing, exemplifies the ongoing cultural exchange and mutual appreciation between China and France. The 10-year golden monkey exchange program promises to further strengthen this partnership, contributing to the preservation of these remarkable creatures and fostering international cooperation in wildlife conservation.
