On Wednesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Mao Ning articulated China's formal stance regarding the G7's recent statements, which he deemed erroneous. He pointed out that while the G7 professes a desire for meaningful cooperation and stable ties with China to tackle global issues, they should embody principles of mutual trust, equality, and mutual benefit.
In response to the statements from the G7 foreign ministers' meeting, Mao highlighted inconsistencies in the group's approach, noting their simultaneous calls for collaboration and their demands for China to halt support for Russia’s defense industry. He criticized the G7 for exaggerating issues such as China's overcapacity and for making erroneous claims regarding the East and South China Seas and China's governance of Taiwan, Xinjiang, Xizang, and Hong Kong.
Mao reiterated China’s impartial stance on the Ukraine crisis, emphasizing its promotion of peace talks while underscoring that China has not supplied weapons to any conflicting parties. Moreover, he stressed that the normal trade relationships between China and Russia should not face disruptions from external pressures.
Regarding the allegations of overcapacity, Mao dismissed these claims as unfounded, supported by numerous facts and data. He expressed hope that G7 nations would approach the situation with an open mindset and engage in fair competition.
The spokesperson emphasized that China's positions on matters concerning the East China Sea, South China Sea, and internal regions are clear and unwavering. He strongly opposed the G7's attempts to undermine China's sovereignty and urged them to adhere to international norms and respect China's internal affairs.
Mao concluded by acknowledging the significant, rapid global changes and the accompanying challenges to international peace and development. He underscored China's commitment to fairness and justice, urging G7 countries to move away from zero-sum thinking and make genuine efforts towards fostering international solidarity and cooperation.
