On Wednesday, Pabitra Margherita, the Minister of State for External Affairs in India, held a meeting with Manoa Kamikamica, the Deputy Prime Minister of Fiji. Margherita expressed his pleasure about the encounter in a post on X, stating they had meaningful discussions aimed at enhancing the unique partnership between their countries.
This meeting is particularly noteworthy as it coincides with the recent signing of a Project Implementation Agreement by India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) with the International Solar Alliance to launch a solar initiative valued at USD 2 million. This investment will benefit Fiji alongside Comoros, Madagascar, and Seychelles, part of India's broader commitment under the Quad Climate Working Group to promote renewable energy across Indo-Pacific nations.
India has been a strong development ally for Fiji, especially since the Indian Prime Minister’s visit in November 2014, which marked a significant advancement in bilateral relations. Over the years, India has supported Fiji's development through various programs, including the Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC), which provides training and education opportunities for Fijian citizens in India.
Additionally, India contributes humanitarian aid and disaster relief to Fiji whenever necessary, reflecting the warm relationship founded on mutual respect and cooperation. Cultural and personal connections between the two nations further strengthen this partnership, fostering a spirit of collaboration that is expected to continue growing.
