On November 28, 2023, US Ambassador to India, Eric Garcetti, engaged in a plantation drive at the Agartala Airport by planting a sapling. He acknowledged the purpose behind the initiative and encouraged people to visit Tripura, highlighting the significance of such efforts in promoting environmental sustainability.
An official from the Airport Authority of India (AAI) shared that the organization is committed to enhancing greenery and has launched a campaign to plant 80,000 saplings across the country as part of its 80th anniversary celebrations. At the Agartala airport itself, 1,500 saplings were planted as part of this significant endeavor, reflecting AAI’s commitment towards achieving zero emissions.
Garcetti expressed gratitude for the warm reception he received at the airport, stating that planting trees is a powerful act symbolizing hope for the future. He emphasized that these trees would contribute to a vibrant environment at Agartala Airport and signify a cooperative effort toward a more sustainable future, alongside fostering amicable ties.
During his time in Tripura, the Ambassador had the opportunity to meet with local women entrepreneurs from diverse sectors including agriculture, fashion, and food. He conveyed that Tripura had made a memorable impression on him, inviting Americans to visit and experience the state's rich cultural tapestry and pristine nature.
Garcetti encouraged others to explore the beauty of Tripura, highlighting that it offers a unique insight into India's diverse heritage beyond the metropolitan centers. He stated that understanding India entails appreciating places like Agartala and the connection people have with the land and culture, affirming that the stories and dreams of the local community resonate throughout the region.
