Akarshana Sathish, an eighth grader from Hyderabad, has made remarkable strides in her mission to promote literacy by inaugurating her 18th library at the Sai Seva Sangh in Moosapet. The event took place on Wednesday and was attended by the Governor of Telangana, Jishnu Dev Varma, who marked the occasion.
Akarshana's initiative traces back to 2021 when she was moved by the stories of young cancer patients who were in need of reading materials during her visit to the MNJ Cancer Children Hospital. Responding to their requests, she has successfully collected over 11,000 books through community donations and has established a total of 17 libraries in diverse settings, including police stations, orphanages, schools, and community centers.
Her admirable efforts have positively impacted a multitude of individuals in cities such as Hyderabad, Coimbatore, Chennai, Kanyakumari, and Siddipet. In an interview with ANI, Akarshana shared her inspiring journey, while Aruna Pradeep, a trustee of Sai Seva Sangh, also highlighted the significance of this endeavor. Sai Seva Sangh, a registered charitable organization founded in 1988, focuses on providing education and residential support for underprivileged girls from rural and slum regions of Telangana, reaching over 18,000 individuals in the last three years and empowering them toward personal advancement and higher education.
