Taiwan Affairs Office Spokesperson Condemns Lai Ching-te's "Taiwan Independence" Rhetoric
In a press conference on Wednesday, Chen Binhua, spokesperson for the State Council's Taiwan Affairs Office, strongly condemned Taiwan regional leader Lai Ching-te's recent remarks to high school students, which promoted "Taiwan independence" and rejected the 1992 Consensus.
Chen accused Lai of using deceitful rhetoric to manipulate young people into supporting "Taiwan independence" at great cost, aiming to exploit them as tools for his political agenda. He called Lai's actions "shameful and reprehensible."
Chen emphasized that "Taiwan independence" cannot coexist with peace across the Taiwan Straits and that the "Taiwan independence" separatist forces pose the greatest threat to regional peace and stability. He described Lai's so-called "path to peace" as a path of destruction that ignores the safety and well-being of Taiwan's youth and the general public.
Chen urged the people of Taiwan, especially its youth, to recognize the true intentions behind Lai and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) authorities' agenda to seek "Taiwan independence." He called on them to reject their provocative actions and work to turn crisis into safety, embarking on a sustainable and lasting path to peace.
Responding to criticism of Lai's "two-state" fallacy, Chen reiterated that reunification represents an inevitable historical trend and the only viable path. He described the concept of "Taiwan independence" as a regressive and doomed pursuit.
Chen emphasized the Chinese mainland's commitment to strengthening communication and cooperation with political parties, organizations, and key figures in Taiwan, based on the common political foundation of upholding the 1992 Consensus and opposing "Taiwan independence." He reaffirmed the mainland's dedication to promoting cross-Straits exchanges, advancing the peaceful development of cross-Straits relations, and pursuing the ultimate goal of reunifying the motherland.
