The U.S. Air Force (USAF) has confirmed sightings of drones near bases used by U.S. forces in the United Kingdom. The sightings occurred on Monday night and involved a fluctuating number of drones at different bases.
RAF Mildenhall, RAF Lakenheath, and RAF Feltwell. The USAF has stated that the drones range in size and configuration and have not been identified as hostile.
The USAF is continuously monitoring the drones to ensure the safety and security of the installations. The UK Ministry of Defense is also supporting the USAF response and has deployed additional troops to the bases.
While no entity or third nation has been named as a possible source of the drones, several major U.S. adversaries, including Russia and Iran, have been accused of increasing their espionage and sabotage activities in Europe this year.
The sightings come amid heightened tensions between Russia and the U.S. and Britain in the wake of the ongoing war in Ukraine.
