On Tuesday, Paris Charles-de-Gaulle airport experienced the closure of two runways as officials mobilized efforts to capture a dog that had escaped from her carrier a week earlier. The dog, owned by an Austrian tourist who had flown from Vienna, evaded capture during unloading operations last week, prompting an extensive search across the airport grounds.
Air France representatives reported that while the animal has been spotted several times and efforts to approach it have been made, it has yet to be successfully captured. Airport officials have outlined a strategy that includes tranquilizing the dog, choosing a time when flight schedules are less busy to minimize disruptions.
Since the escape, search parties have been active around the clock, even with the presence of the dog's owner, who is currently having their hotel costs covered by Air France. To assist in the search, posters are being displayed to inform airport personnel of the ongoing efforts.
This incident at Charles-de-Gaulle brings to mind a similar event that took place in September 2023 at a busy U.S. airport, where a Chihuahua mix named Maia escaped during a transfer and was missing for 22 days before being found safely.
