The Canadian government has suspended Global Health Imports, a company previously co-owned by Liberal MP and former minister Randy Boissonnault, from bidding on federal contracts for at least 90 days. This decision comes amid scrutiny over the company's business practices, including allegations that it falsely claimed to be Indigenous-owned while applying for federal contracts.
Boissonnault has denied any involvement in the company's operations since his re-election in 2021. However, he resigned as employment minister last week and stated that he would focus on clearing his name.
The company currently has one active contract with the federal government through Elections Canada. However, Elections Canada has confirmed that no deliverables have been received and no payments have been made.
Public Services and Procurement Canada has clarified that the successful Elections Canada bid did not include an Indigenous set-aside requirement.
The government's decision to suspend Global Health Imports from bidding on federal contracts is part of an ongoing investigation into the company's business practices. The outcome of this investigation will determine whether the company will be permanently barred from future government contracts.
