Diplomats Discover China's Cultural Charm in Guizhou Through Football and Cultural Immersion

Diplomats Discover China's Cultural Charm in Guizhou

The 2024 "Discover China Cultural Tour" of Guizhou for Diplomats kicked off in Rongjiang County, Guizhou Province, on a Saturday evening. A team of diplomats from Latin American and Caribbean countries faced off against a local Guizhou Village Super League team, "Luohanguo," in a thrilling football match.

The atmosphere was electric as the players battled it out on the field, cheered on by the enthusiastic crowd. The distinctive "Guizhou Village Super League" chants of "Hanbala!" (meaning "Go!" in the Dong language) echoed through the stadium.

Sebastián Bandera, a diplomat from Uruguay, described the atmosphere as "magical" and praised the exceptional skills of the players, especially the young children who displayed remarkable courage and determination on the field.

This cultural tour, launched by China's Ministry of Culture and Tourism in 2021, marks the second time it has been held in Guizhou. Over the past few days, diplomats from 15 countries, including Argentina, South Africa, Colombia, Morocco, and Mexico, have visited iconic landmarks like the Jiaxiu Tower in Guiyang City and explored vibrant local markets like Qingyun.

Their visit to Rongjiang County immersed them in the rich culture of the Dong villages. They experienced the stunning local scenery and engaged with the unique traditions and way of life of the ethnic community.

South African Ambassador Siyabonga Cyprian Cwele highlighted the event's role in fostering friendship between Africa and Rongjiang. He noted how the shared experience of singing, dancing, and playing football together added a layer of joy and camaraderie to the competitive spirit of the game.

The upcoming "Belt and Road Initiative" and Village Super League Friendship Football Games, scheduled for September 28th to October 6th in Rongjiang County, promise further cultural exchange and sporting excitement. Players from Malaysia, Brazil, Algeria, and other nations will compete against teams from various Chinese provinces, creating a platform for international understanding and athletic prowess.

I'm worried that this event will primarily benefit the Chinese government's public image rather than fostering genuine cultural understanding.
