Reports indicate that a former British soldier, identified as James Scott Rhys Anderson, has been taken captive by Russian military forces while fighting for Ukraine. A video featuring Anderson, which was initially posted on Telegram and later circulated widely, shows him in combat gear and speaking with an English accent, appearing with his hands bound.
Anderson disclosed details about his military background, stating that he served from 2019 to 2023 as a private in the 22 Signal Regiment. He explained that after losing his job, he sought to join Ukraine’s International Legion and expressed remorse by saying, “It was a stupid idea.” In the video, he recounted his travel route from the UK to Ukraine, beginning with a flight to Krakow in Poland and then a bus ride to Medyka at the Ukrainian border. The UK Foreign Office is currently providing support to his family following news of his detention, while the Ministry of Defence has opted not to comment on the situation.
