Recent findings from an autopsy have shed light on the tragic deaths of Veronica Butler and Jilian Kelly, two Kansas mothers who went missing while traveling to Oklahoma. The Oklahoma medical examiner's office has determined that both women likely died from "multiple sharp force trauma," categorizing their deaths as homicides. A full report is expected to be released on November 15.

Butler and Kelly were last seen on March 30, when they were en route to retrieve their children. Their vehicle was later discovered abandoned, prompting concerns of foul play. In April, the medical examiner confirmed the identities of the deceased to be Butler and Kelly, whose remains were found in a cow pasture, concealed within a chest freezer.

Court documents allege that Paul Grice fatally stabbed Butler while Tad Cullum killed Kelly. Grice reportedly injured his hand during the attack, and evidence suggests that he disposed of the items he wore, the murder weapon, and a stun device shortly after. Additionally, DNA found on clothing discarded at the scene included samples from both Grice and Butler.

Cullum is accused of discarding his clothes with the victims' bodies, which had matched DNA from both Kelley and himself. Investigators also discovered accessories for the knife at Cullum's residence. Tifany Machel Adams, the grandmother of Butler’s children, is also implicated, facing charges alongside her boyfriend Cullum and two others, Cole and Cora Twombly, all related to kidnapping and conspiracy to commit murder.

Allegations suggest that the Twombly couple acted as accomplices during the murder and that Adams sought assistance in procuring various tools and devices for the crime. Testimonies from Adams' daughter and analysis of multiple burner phones used in the conspiracy led to the women's bodies being discovered on April 14. Reports indicate that the group had initially planned to simulate an accident involving Butler, demonstrating the premeditated nature of their actions.

Motives behind the crime appear rooted in a bitter custody struggle over Butler’s children, with connections to an anti-government religious group called "God's Misfits." The children's father was in a rehabilitation facility at the time of the incident, and it was believed that Butler was poised to gain unsupervised access to her children soon. Prosecutors are pushing for all defendants to face a joint preliminary hearing due to claims of their collective involvement in the murders of Butler and Kelley.
