No Limits on Ukraine's Use of US Weapons, Even Against North Korean Soldiers
The Pentagon's Stance on North Korean Involvement in the Ukraine War
The Pentagon has declared that there will be no new limitations on Ukraine's use of American weapons, even if North Korean soldiers join the conflict alongside Russia. This statement comes after the Department of Defense announced in mid-October that it would provide Ukraine with an additional $425 million worth of supplies and weapons, including missiles and artillery ammunition.
When questioned about potential restrictions on the use of American weapons against North Korean soldiers, Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh responded with a firm "No." She emphasized that North Korea's involvement would make them co-belligerents in the war, fighting alongside Russian forces against Ukrainian sovereignty.
Singh further stated that the decision to send troops into combat rests with the North Korean leadership. However, she reiterated the United States' commitment to supporting Ukraine's defense of its territory with whatever resources are necessary.
The Pentagon estimates that around 10,000 North Korean soldiers have entered Russia. The State Department has also expressed concerns about the deepening military relationship between Russia and North Korea, engaging directly with Chinese officials to convey these concerns.
NATO has confirmed the deployment of North Korean troops to assist Russia in the war against Ukraine. A portion of these soldiers have moved closer to the Ukrainian border, with a smaller number already present in the Kursk region.
Pentagon Press Secretary Maj. Gen. Pat Ryder views the North Korean troop movements as an indication of Russia's dire manpower situation on the front lines. He believes that Russia's need to rely on foreign troops highlights serious questions about their ability to sustain their personnel requirements.
