Israel and Hezbollah on the Brink of a Ceasefire
President Biden's Middle East team is working to broker a temporary ceasefire between Israel and Hezbollah, aiming to replace the ineffective UNIFIL mission. The goal is to fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 1701, which aims to demilitarize southern Lebanon.
U.S. officials will meet with Israeli leaders to finalize the deal, while Israel continues its military pressure on Hezbollah. The terror group's new leader, Naim Qassem, has vowed to continue its fight against Israel, but has not ruled out a ceasefire.
Hezbollah has suffered significant losses, including the death of its long-time leader Hassan Nasrallah in an Israeli airstrike. The group's remaining arsenal is estimated to be around 20% of its original capacity.
The IDF has urged UNIFIL to withdraw from southern Lebanon, but the mission has refused. UNIFIL has also been accused of enabling Hezbollah's activities.
The situation remains tense, but there is a possibility for a temporary ceasefire that could pave the way for a more permanent solution.

If we can stop the fighting, even temporarily, it can save countless lives on both sides.

A ceasefire is a step in the right direction. We need to prioritize diplomacy over military action.

Let's focus on the bigger picture—long-term peace. A ceasefire can be the first step toward that.
