Understanding Families to Address Declining Birth Rates
China Launches New Survey to Understand Family Dynamics and Reproductive Behaviors
China has officially launched a new round of population and family development survey to gain a deeper understanding of family dynamics and reproductive behaviors. This information will be crucial in enhancing fertility support policies and addressing the challenges families face when considering having children.
The survey will be conducted in 150 monitored counties and 1,500 communities, reaching a total of 30,000 individuals. It aims to identify key factors influencing public attitudes towards childbearing, address the challenges families face, and analyze the sentiments of reluctance and fear surrounding having children. This data will provide scientific evidence to enhance fertility support policies and incentive measures.
The last nationwide family and fertility survey was carried out in 2021. Since then, China has experienced negative population growth for the first time in 61 years, influenced by factors such as changing attitudes towards childbirth and a decrease in the number of women of childbearing age. This demographic shift highlights the need for effective policies to support families and encourage childbirth.
The new survey will provide valuable insights into the needs and concerns of families regarding childbearing. It will explore the effectiveness of existing financial subsidies, analyze fertility trends across different demographics, and assess the childcare needs of families. This information will be crucial in refining the policy framework and developing targeted solutions to address the issue of declining birth rates.
The survey is expected to provide valuable data and insights that will inform the development of effective fertility support policies and contribute to addressing the challenges of population decline in China.
