Tokyo and Canberra to Deepen Defense Cooperation and Industry Ties
Australia and Japan are poised to significantly strengthen their defense cooperation and industrial partnerships over the next two years, according to a senior Australian defense official. This move comes amidst growing concerns about the increasingly challenging international security environment.
Hugh Jeffrey, the Department of Defence’s deputy secretary for strategy, policy and industry, emphasized the need to expand collaboration beyond the military domain to encompass industrial and technological fields. He believes that enhancing cooperation in these areas will not only improve operational effectiveness but also ensure that both nations' militaries are adequately equipped to address the evolving strategic landscape.
Jeffrey's remarks were made during a recent visit to Tokyo, where he underscored the importance of deepening the strategic partnership between Australia and Japan. This partnership has gained increasing significance in light of the shared concerns about regional security challenges.
