In Yinchuan, the capital of Ningxia Hui autonomous region, a family's struggle with their 15-day-old baby's recurring skin rash took a positive turn thanks to telemedicine. Concerned about their infant's condition, which persisted despite focused treatments, the family contemplated transferring their child to Beijing for specialized care, but the logistics and high expenses posed significant challenges.

Following advice from their doctor, the family reached out to the national expert remote diagnosis and treatment center at the First People's Hospital of Yinchuan. This initiative enabled them to consult with Zhang Bin, a pediatric dermatologist from Beijing Children's Hospital. The consultation revealed that the infant was actually suffering from incontinentia pigmenti, a rare condition rather than a common rash, leading to a tailored medication plan that was immediately put into practice by local doctors.

This instance highlights a broader trend, as the remote diagnosis and treatment center has assisted over 3,000 patients by connecting them with distinguished experts from major urban hospitals. The telemedicine platform facilitates quick diagnosis and allows patients to utilize their local health insurance while avoiding the burdensome costs of traveling to distant medical facilities.

Telemedicine in Ningxia has significantly evolved, with the number of medical experts involved doubling in recent years, allowing for enhanced service delivery. With more than 900 specialists from various cities providing support, local acceptance and appreciation for these services have greatly increased, according to staff member Zhang Wei.

The integration of internet technology into the healthcare sector has brought transformative changes, especially for underserved areas. Ningxia has established a comprehensive telemedicine framework, featuring a five-tier system alongside specialized diagnostic centers for various medical needs.

In Yinchuan, the remote imaging diagnostic center plays a crucial role by continuously updating diagnosis data from local health facilities, enabling quick access to results. Patients can receive their diagnostic imaging reports on their smartphones within thirty minutes, considerably improving healthcare access.

To further bolster local expertise, the First People's Hospital provides regular training for local radiologists and technicians. As radiology technician Yang Jianqiang notes, this collaboration has not only enhanced their skills but also instilled greater confidence in patients seeking treatment, assuring them of quality care thanks to telemedicine advancements.
