Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump's recent rally in Madison Square Garden, stating that the vitriol expressed there will not support the dreams and aspirations of the American people. She believes that Trump's focus on grievances and division will not strengthen the American family or worker.
Harris, who was traveling to Michigan on Monday to continue campaigning with eight days left before the Nov. 5 election, told reporters that Trump's event Sunday, in which speakers hurled cruel and racist insults, "highlighted the point that I've been making throughout this campaign."
"He is focused and actually fixated on his grievances, on himself, and on dividing our country, and it is not in any way something that will strengthen the American family, the American worker," she said.
Harris plans to deliver a major campaign closing speech on Tuesday night, where she will highlight the differences between herself and Trump. She believes that Trump's actions at the rally are not a discovery, but rather a continuation of his attempts to divide Americans and fan the flames of hate.
"What he did last night is not a discovery. It is just more of the same and may be more vivid than usual. Donald Trump spends full time trying to have Americans point their finger at each other, fans the fuel of hate and division, and that's why people are exhausted with him," she said.
Trump's campaign has sought to distance itself from the remarks made at the rally, including one speaker who referred to Puerto Rico as a "floating island of garbage.
