Rachel Homan's team from Canada showcased an impressive performance at the Pan Continental Curling Championships, improving their record to 2-0 after a commanding 13-0 victory over Taiwan during the early draw on Monday. The Ottawa-based squad took early control of the game by scoring five points in the first end and continued to dominate, stealing points in five consecutive ends before the matchup concluded with the teams shaking hands.
Later on Monday, Team Homan was set to compete against China. In additional results from the morning session, South Korea achieved a 13-3 win against New Zealand, Japan triumphed over China with an 11-6 score, and the United States registered a 10-2 victory against Mexico.
On the men's side, two-time defending champion Brad Gushue from St. John’s, Newfoundland and Labrador, also enhanced his record to an unbeaten 3-0 with a 10-5 win against Anton Hood’s New Zealand team. Canada took charge from the start, capitalizing on a mistake from New Zealand to score three points in the first end.
After allowing New Zealand to earn a point in the second end, Canada added one point in the third before blanking the fourth. New Zealand began to close the gap with a score of two in the fifth end; however, Canada responded effectively, scoring another three points in the sixth end thanks to a well-executed hit-and-roll play by Gushue, with support from newcomer Brendan Bottcher.
While New Zealand managed to score two points in the seventh, Canada sealed the match with another three-point end in the eighth, prompting New Zealand to concede. In other games during the third draw, China secured a 12-4 victory over Taiwan, the United States defeated Australia 9-2, and Japan narrowly overcame Korea 6-4. Canada, China, Japan, and the U.S. all remain undefeated, tied for the top position in the eight-team round-robin standings.
