On October 1, 2024, projectiles from Iran were intercepted by Israel over Jerusalem. In light of escalating tensions, Chief Commander of the Iranian Army, Abdolrahim Mousavi, remarked that any unwise move by Israel would trigger a "harsh and destructive" retaliation from Iran. He noted that while Iran has exercised restraint in response to Israel's provocative actions, they are ready to strike with precision when deemed necessary.
Mousavi emphasized that Iran's response would exceed any previous action taken should the adversary err. This statement followed a missile assault by Iran, which reportedly involved around 180 missiles aimed at various Israeli targets. The attack was reportedly retaliation for the assassination of prominent figures affiliated with Hamas, Hezbollah, and a senior Iranian military commander by Israel, as well as Israel's increased military activities against Palestinians and Lebanese. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu labeled Iran's actions as a significant mistake that would not go unpunished.
