Israel Launches Ground Raids Against Hezbollah
Israel launched small ground raids against Hezbollah on Monday, declaring three northern communities a "closed military zone," hinting at a possible escalation. The U.S. confirmed the raids, describing them as "limited operations" targeting Hezbollah infrastructure near the border.
No direct clashes were reported, but a Western diplomat expects an "imminent" Israeli ground operation in Lebanon. U.S. President Biden and French Foreign Minister Barrot called for a ceasefire, while Saudi Arabia urged respect for Lebanon's sovereignty.
The fighting has caused over 1,000 deaths and 6,000 injuries in Lebanon, displacing 250,000 people. Tens of thousands have also been displaced in Israel.
Analysts expect retaliation from Iran or Hezbollah, potentially targeting Israeli or Jewish targets abroad. Israel remains on high alert and has called on its citizens abroad to exercise caution.
Despite the death of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah, the conflict continues, with both sides showing no signs of backing down. The international community urges a ceasefire and a diplomatic resolution to prevent further escalation and loss of life.
