Ground Operation Launched, Biden Expresses Disapproval
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) initiated a limited ground operation targeting the Iran-backed terrorist group Hezbollah on Monday evening. This marked a significant escalation in the ongoing Israel-Hezbollah war.
The operation followed successful Israeli airstrikes against Hezbollah over the weekend, which resulted in the deaths of several key figures, including leader Hassan Nasrallah and deputy head of the Central Council, Nabil Kaouk.
Prior to the ground incursion, the IDF imposed a closed military zone on northern Israeli border communities. This move came after the Israeli military launched airstrikes on central Beirut on Sunday, marking the first time the central part of the Lebanese capital was targeted in the year-long war.
President Biden expressed disapproval of the IDF's ground operation, stating that he was "comfortable" with Israel stopping the incursion and calling for a ceasefire. However, the IDF remained resolute in its commitment to degrading Hezbollah's military capabilities in Lebanon.
