The China Marrow Donor Program revealed that the number of bone marrow donations in mainland China has reached 18,474. This total includes 385 donations that were made for patients located in 31 different countries and regions outside the mainland. As reported during an event celebrating World Marrow Donor Day in Nanjing, this year alone has seen 1,766 donations, out of which 11 were for patients beyond China's borders.
Since its establishment over twenty years ago, the China Marrow Donor Program has operated as a nonprofit organization, managing the national registry of donors. To date, the program boasts more than 3.45 million volunteers and has conducted HLA typing tests for over 120,000 individuals suffering from blood diseases. These tests are crucial for matching patients with suitable donors for effective transplantation.
