The Hukou Waterfall, located on the Yellow River in Jixian county, Linfen of Shanxi province, has recently experienced a surge in its flow due to recent rainfall and the release of water from upstream reservoirs. This has resulted in a breathtaking series of waterfall formations stretching across hundreds of meters, creating a spectacular natural spectacle.
According to local photographer Lyu Guiming, the best time to view the Hukou Waterfall is during the spring and autumn seasons, particularly in September when the weather cools down and the ambiance is tranquil. During the current rainy season, the water flow at the Hukou Waterfall has surpassed its typical daily volume by more than fourfold, creating a majestic cascade of water.
Efforts to protect the ecological system at the Yellow River Basin have led to significant improvements in the environment around the waterfall, including the hills on both sides becoming much greener. Jixian county has invested heavily in expanding forest coverage, planting over 15,000 evergreen trees, 20,000 flowering shrubs, 17,000 lilacs, and 50,000 ivy plants. Additionally, they have cultivated over 40,000 square meters of perennial flowers and grasses.
On October 1, Shanxi will implement a new set of regulations to further protect the Yellow River Basin and promote its high-quality development. These regulations aim to ensure the sustainable management and utilization of water resources in the region, while also preserving the ecological integrity of the Yellow River.
